Edit PDFs: Text, Images and Redaction
On the Edit tab you modify the page content itself — not just annotations about it.
Edit existing content
Select Edit → Edit Content:
- Click into a paragraph, a heading or a table cell and type directly on the page — as in an editor. The caret appears where you clicked; in the small bar above you make the font smaller or larger and choose alignment.
- Apply the change with a click next to it or Ctrl+Enter; Esc discards it. netPDF continues to use the original font; if a character is missing it substitutes the closest matching font and adjusts its width.
- Click an image to replace it, rotate it, resize it or delete it.
- Drag a paragraph or an image with the mouse to a new position.
Add text and images
Add text: draw a frame, enter text and font size. Add image: draw an area and choose a PNG or JPEG file. Both become a permanent part of the page.
Redact confidential information
- Select Cover and draw a rectangle over the confidential area.
- Leave the method Redact (Remove content) selected: netPDF removes text, image parts and graphics within the area from the file. Content outside the area remains searchable.
- Save the result with Save As … to a new file.
Important: Regular Save appends changes to the file and leaves the previous version inside the file. Therefore always save redacted documents with Save As ….
Search and redact redacts all occurrences of a term at once and can detect email addresses, IBANs, telephone and credit card numbers on request. Remove hidden content deletes metadata, attachments, comments, scripts and other invisible data.
Save
Save (Ctrl+S) appends changes to the file. Save As (Ctrl+Shift+S) writes a new, clean copy.
