Create, Convert and Scan PDFs
netPDF turns almost any file into a PDF and converts any PDF back into an editable document.
Convert files to PDF
Open Word documents (.docx), Excel workbooks (.xlsx), PowerPoint presentations (.pptx), HTML pages, text files or images simply with Open or drag them into the window. netPDF converts them into a new PDF that you can review and save. Page size, fonts, tables and images are preserved. Document → PDF from Images combines multiple images into a single PDF.
Export PDF
Document → Export saves a PDF as a Word document, Excel workbook, PowerPoint presentation, web page, text file or as images (PNG, JPEG, multi-page TIFF). Headings, lists and tables are recognized.
Scanning
Document → PDF from Scanner reads pages directly from the scanner. Under Windows the scan dialog of Windows opens, under Linux you choose color mode and resolution in netPDF. After each page netPDF asks whether another follows; afterwards it can immediately recognize the text.
Text recognition (OCR)
- Select Document → Recognize text (OCR).
- Choose the document language and whether only pages without text or all pages should be recognized.
- netPDF straightens skewed scanned pages beforehand.
The recognized text is placed invisibly over the image: afterwards you can search, highlight and copy; the appearance remains the same. The recognition runs entirely on your computer.
Print from any program
Under Windows the setup installs the printer netPDF. If you print from Word, your browser or your accounting software to this printer, netPDF opens the result immediately as a new PDF.
Conversions as copies and progress
Conversions such as converting fonts to outlines, CMYK, PDF/X, PDF/A, making accessible, text recognition or flattening fields and comments create a copy next to the original by default: the filename receives a suffix, for example Bericht_paths.pdf, and the copy opens in a new tab. The original remains unchanged. Under File → Options disable Create a copy for conversions if the opened document itself should be converted. For longer operations a small window shows progress with page number and time.
Compare versions
Open the new version, select Document → Compare versions and then the older version. netPDF generates a report: inserted text in green, modified in orange, deleted with a red insertion mark, graphical changes outlined in blue.
